As we get older, many are the concerns that increasingly occupy our minds... On top of that, thanks to social media and the excessive consumerism in which we are involved in society, we spend too much time on superfluous issues such as; how many likes do I have, or finding the best filters to use on our social media profiles. Apart from these and other concerns, have you ever considered anything else, such as the health of your feet? It may not seem that important, althought according to experts, 70% of the population suffers from foot related problems. Are you within this group? We overlook trivial issues as "how to know if a given shoe fits us properly..." Want to know more? Read on.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A SHOE FITS PROPERLY?
For sure you've asked yourself this question countless times before... Well, be glad since you've finally come to the right place! As today, from Bullfeet we are going to solve all your doubts.
While it's true that much depends on what sort of footwear we are talking about, we have to consider that brands use different lasts as well. Likewise, it's not the same if we intend to practice a specific sport such as running, in which case we would opt for running shoes, or else we refer to everyday custom sneakers as cool as the ones we make at Bullfeet.
Many are the factors to take into account (tips listed below), when it comes to choosing shoe sizing. Essentially though, to be sure, there should be at least half a centimeter, or one at most, between the longest toe to the toe cap of the shoe. A couple of tips worth knowing are: the old trick of moving the whole foot forward so that a finger fits into the heel, or measuring your foot as we suggest in the following video:
HOW TO KNOW IF A SHOE IS TOO SMALL?
It is very likely that you've been wearing shoes too small for your feet and still don't know about it. If you have calluses or blisters, that could be the reason. It's quite feasible that you may need a half, or even a size up in your custom shoes. Sometimes, following prolonged use of undersized shoes, your nails can suffer alterations such as bruising, and (even if it sounds far-fetched), nail loss can occur. At the moment of picking one size or another, ensure that the little toe is not mounted over the preceding one, don't rely on your usual shoe size (lasts may vary, even from the same brand), and pay attention to both the width and length. But above all, as we've already mentioned, you must ensure that there is a separation of at least ½ cm between your toes and the shoe, thus avoiding the friction and rubbing which can harm your feet.
HOW TO KNOW IF A SHOE IS TOO BIG?
As with small shoes, chafing and blisters can also be an unmistakable sign that certain shoes are slightly too big, equally harming your feet's health. Although insoles can be added to avoid shuffling, ideally, footwear should adapt to our feet and not the other way around. Optimal fit is vital when it comes to our feet, as large shoes can cause us to fall and trip. Measuring our feet is often the best way to get the right size as we've shown you in the previous video. Nevertheless, keep on reading as you'll find some additional really useful tips below.
To sum up, taking care of our feet is essential, as they are the ones that bear our weight, lead our way, enabling us to walk through our lifetime. We all know that, yet we often fail to pay them the care they need. It's often the case that when problems arise, we regret not having worn the right footwear in time.
As the saying goes; "prevention is better than cure", so take note of the following tips:
- You should try on your shoes late in the day, since our feet tend to be a little more swollen than usual.
- We all have one foot bigger than the other, identify it and try your shoes on that foot first.
- Tie up your custom sneakers and walk around in them to see how comfy they are. If they feel sore as soon as you try them on, it's a BIG NO NO!
- If you're planning to wear socks, then try on your shoes with the same socks you'll be wearing.
- You have to be able to wiggle your toes, so there needs to be some free room for mobility.
- In order to ensure proper fitting and to avoid heel slippage, this part of the shoe has to be firm and reinforced.
